Graduate Education: Outreach

Community Science Center (CSC)

Community Science Center (CSC)

The CSC has been a valuable outreach asset at UCSB for over 25 years. The CSC contains a host of hands-on science equipment, allowing students to learn about a variety of topics in an interactive way. Guided tours are available.

Physics Study Room (PSR)

Physics Study Room (PSR)

Open from 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday when classes are in session. There should be a TA in the PSR at all times, and any TA should be able to help you with problems in any Physics class.

Physics CircusPhysics Circus

The Physics Department has sponsored this exciting K-12 outreach program since 1998. The Circus takes CSC equipment on the road to local schools for an action-packed learning experience led by enthusiastic Physics Department graduate students, undergraduate students, and faculty.

Society of Physics Students (SPS)

Society of Physics Students logoThe Society of Physics Students is a professional association explicitly designed for students. Membership, through collegiate chapters, is open to anyone interested in physics. Outreach events include Shadow a Mad Scientist, a pilot program that invites 40 high school students
to “become” UCSB Physics students for a day.

Institute for Quantum and Complex Dynamics (iQCD)

Institute for Quantum and Complex Dynamics (iQCD)

Sponsors several programs, including undergraduate research opportunities for high school students and teachers to work in university laboratories, and programs that travel to local schools.

Let's Explore Applied Physical Science (LEAPS)

LEAPS

LEAPS engages UCSB graduate and undergraduate Fellows as instructors and mentors for inquiry-based science in Grade 8 and Grade 9 classrooms. By establishing collaboration between Fellows, science teachers, and UCSB scientists in school classrooms, the LEAPS project implements hands-on, minds-on learning experiences in physical science.
