Andy Howell leads a team that discovers a supernova

Astronomers around the world are excited about the discovery of a new supernova, located in images captured by several telescopes, including the UCSB-affiliated Las Cumbres Global Observatory telescope at the Sedgwick Reserve. Andy Howell, adjunct professor of physics at UCSB and staff scientist at LCOGT, is one of the leaders of the team that discovered the supernova.
