Quantum computing makes Physics World Top 10 breakthroughs for 2011

Ninth place in Physics World Top Ten Breakthroughs for 2011 goes to Matteo Mariantoni, a postdoctoral fellow working with Andrew Cleland and John Martinis, for being the first to implement a quantum version of the "Von Neumann" architecture found in PCs.  This discovery, reported on in September, moves us closer to the creation of practical quantum computers that solve real-life problems.

This is the second year in a row that a breakthrough by a Martinis/Cleland team has been named in Physics World's top 10.
