Gary Horowitz Named Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences

Congratulations to Gary Horowitz who has just been elected a fellow of the prestigious American Academy of Arts and Sciences.  Also elected is UCSB Professor Ken Macdonald, professor emeritus of the Department of Earth Science.  Their selection brings the number of UCSB faculty who are members of the Academy to 31.

Professor Horowitz studies both classical and quantum aspects of gravitational physics. His research focuses primarily on questions involving gravity under the most extreme conditions, including the big bang in cosmology and the spacetime inside black holes.  In 2010 he was also elected to the National Academy of Sciences.
