Tuesday, Dec 6: Millisecond pulsars and their companions: where high-energy physics determines the weather!

Event Date:

Tuesday, December 6, 2016 - 4:00pm

Event Date Details:

Refreshments served at 3:40pm

Event Location:

  • KITP Main Seminar Room (1003 Kohn Hall)
  • Physics Colloquium

GeV-PeV particles and photons from pulsars induce air showers and spallation in the atmospheres of their nearby companion stars, leading to thermally driven winds, bloating and limit cycles in accretion.  We present the theoretical principles, and compare with the rich observational data.

NOTE: change of venue: KITP MAIN SEMINAR ROOM (1003 Kohn Hall)
