Planet Labs is a purpose-driven startup that builds and operates fleets of compact, highly capable Earth-imaging satellites – collecting data about the changing planet to enable both commercial and humanitarian applications. Founded by NASA scientists, Planet's goal is to image the entire Earth every day. There are a wide range of humanitarian applications such as tracking deforestation, improving precision agriculture, water security, natural disaster relief efforts; as well as commercial applications such as consumer mapping, commodities tracking and news. To date Planet has built and launched 145 satellites - and today operates the largest Earth imaging constellation in history.

Will Marshall did part of his Ph.D. research at the UCSB’s physics department.
