Vibrational properties affect or govern many important properties of quantum defects [1]: their optical signatures, non-radiative transitions, spin initialization mechanisms, photo-ionization processes, etc. In this talk I will discuss theoretical studies of vibrational properties of isolated color centres in diamond, the nitrogen- vacancy (NV) centre and the silicon-vacancy (SiV) centre, from a point of view of theoretical spectroscopy. The question that will be addressed is: how accurate are current theoretical ab-initio methods in predicting vibrational properties of these defects and what developments are still needed? In the case of the NV centre in diamond the calculation of both luminescence [2,3] and absorption [3] lineshapes will be discussed. In the case of the SiV centre in diamond the analysis vibrational modes of various symmetries will be presented, and outstanding questions related to optical signatures will be discussed [4].
