- December 2006: Alan Heeger has been awarded the Eni Italgas Prize on Energy and Environment for his innovative research on solar cells made with plastic material: cheap, versatile and clean. The shared prize, that consists of a sum of 120,000 euros, is aimed to scientists that have achieved relevant results in research on energy sources and their relation with the environment. more

- Fall 2006: Joseph Polchinsski, together with Juan Maldacena of Princeton’s Institute for Advanced Study, has been awarded the 2007 Dannie Heineman Prize for “profound developments in mathematical physics that have illuminated interconnections and launched major research areas in quantum field theory, string theory, and gravity.”

- July 2006: Doug Scalapino received the John Bardeen Prize at the 8th International Conference on Materials and Mechanisms of Superconductivity and High Temperature Superconductors for "his contributions to life time effects of quasiparticles and how strong correlations affect their properties." Other prize winners included Alexander Andreev and Kazumi Maki.
