7 Early Preventative Maintenance

I've already mentioned a much of stuff interspersed amongst the descriptions of stuff so I will try not to repeat myself too much here. You will probably find that you will be doing most of your setting up during Spring Break and that you will want to use whatever bodies you can find to help you out at that point.

The first thing to do is obviously to get everything down to the floor of the commons so that you can get at it all. Before you move onto the next section of hanging everything up, take a couples of hours now to make your life far easier in the near future. Find the cable with the dimmer switch mentioned above and use it to test the bulbs in all of the lights. Next there is a modification to the mini-coffins I made which if it has come undone is going to cause all sorts of problems.

The fans on the mini-coffins were driving the directors batty with their noise, so in mid-air in 1994 I made a modification to the fan system, which makes them much quieter. If my modification has broken the fans will stop running all together which will cause the coffins to overheat, causing all sorts of havoc. Please improve the way I have done this if you get a chance, I didn't have time to improve it in 1994 and then I graduated, and this was only meant to be semi-temporary.

What I did was change the wiring of the fan plugs inside the coffins so that two fans were run in serial off of a single input rather than separately on two inputs. This was done by moving the cables around and adding a small jumper wire. The net effect of this modification is to make the fans run at half their normal speed. This suggestion was actually made by the people who sold be the coffins, so it is not all that uncommon, but it does violate warranty which has expired by now anyways.
