Baker as a college put a lot of money into the current lighting system, and while cabinet may have forgotten by now, there was and still should be an expectation that the lighting system was a college purchase and not just a Baker Shakespeare purchase. The lighting system has as one of its major goals that it should be able to be used for things like Baker parties in addition to theatrical activities.
At this point anything that the lighting system needs should come out of the funds that Baker Shake earns in the previous Spring. This however begins to get tricky since unless things have changed Baker Shake's money is still strongly tied up in Baker Cabinet. This can be a curse and a blessing.
The curse can come if there is no good accounting as to how much Baker Shake has earned and spent the previous Spring, and in years before that. If this information has been forgotten there is the danger that cabinet will see Baker Shake coming to them as a financial drain rather than looking back and seeing that you can make back more than you spend.
The blessing is more than being allowed to use the tax-exempt number, you are also given an cushion so that you can spend money before you have actually made it back from selling tickets. This requires some trust from the cabinet, and you should be willing to give them a proposed budget and give them some sort of idea what you are planning on spending their money on.
