Windmills Glen Phillips Solo Acoustic Version Tabbed by Gavin Lazarow (gavinl@gavinl.com) small corrections by michael All comments/corrections gladly welcomed!!! michael's note: the main riff, the part everybody wants to get right, is notoriously tricky. it's given in the main tab exactly as gavin transcribed it. at the bottom, i've added two variations on it. make what you like out of the three versions... Capo II (All notes relative to capo) Drop D Main Riff the (4) note is not played all the time. I generally leave it out. Bm A G It's all worth waiting for Outro A D9sus4 Anyway the wind blows Main Riff (michael's version #1) this is how i play it when i'm in dropped-D tuning, to be consistent with the way gavin transcribed it and the way glen actually does it. the timing is important here, and it's impossible to get that across like this, but i've tried to make the spaces correspond roughly to time... D9sus4 D9sus4 D9sus4/G D9sus4/A e---------------------------------------------------- B--3-------------3------------3-------------3-------- G--------0--------------0-----------0-------------0-- D-----4--------4-----4-----------4-------------4----- A-----------------------------------------0---------- D--0--------------------------5---------------------- Bm7 Bm7 Bm7/A B7sus4/A e-------------------------------------------0---------- B--3-------------3------------3------------------3----- G--------0-------------0------------0---------------0-- D-----4--------4----4------------4---------4----------- A--2--------------------------0------------------------ D------------------------------------------------------ Main Riff (michael's version #2) ... but this is how i actually play it. i don't drop D. instead, i put the capo on so that it only covers the low 5 strings, leaving the 6th string open. this gives you the same tuning as drop-D, capo II, but it makes some of the voicings different. i have no idea how to transcribe what i do... i'll just briefly describe it... the two notes on the low string in the main riff - the open note in the D9sus4 and the 5th fret in D9sus4/G are played the same, except that the 5th fret is the 5th fret _relative to the nut_, making it the 3rd fret relative to the capo. you can play the choruses more or less the same as in gavin's version. the tricky thing is the bridge... the lowest note in the E5 chord at the end is on 6th string at the 2nd fret, where the capo ought to be. to play this chord, you have to cross your index finger over the capo to play the note. it may take some getting used to, but i find it pretty easy... like i said, make what you will out of this.
