WORK EXPERIENCE:

Ab Initio Software Co., Lexington, MA Internal Consultant, 2006 - Present.

University of California, Santa Barbara Graduate Student Researcher, 2001-2005.  Studying kinematics of gaseous outflows in galaxies to better understand the relation of galactic winds/outflows and the enrichment of the intergalactic medium.  Dissertation Advisor: Dr. Crystal Martin (UCSB)

W. H. Freeman & Co. Publishers Freelance Editor, 2004.  Writing and editing of end-of-chapter questions for the undergraduate astronomy textbook, Universe, by R. Freedman (Seventh Edition).

University of California, Santa Barbara Graduate Student Researcher, 2000-2002. Reduction and analysis of Very Long Baseline Array data of the water masers in the star forming region W49N. Analysis of line widths of features as a function of baseline, as well as looking into the question of maser "halos". Also involved in studies of pulsar scintillation as related to scattering in the interstellar medium, with related observations at Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico. Advisor: Dr. Carl Gwinn (UCSB)

University of California, Santa Barbara Teaching Assistant, 1999-2004. Graduate teaching assistant for (undergraduate) Astronomy and Physics classes. Duties involve substitute-teaching lectures, teaching discussion sessions, writing homework solutions, assisting in class and web site business and maintenance, holding office hours and exam review sessions, and assisting students personally in learning material. Supervisors: Dr. Robert Geller, Dr. Crystal Martin, Dr. Robert Antonucci (UCSB)

National Radio Astronomy Observatory Summer Intern, June - August 1999. Measuring proper motions of a gaseous knot in the (possibly) superluminal jet in M84. Duties include data reducation, calibration, and analysis, along with basic computer programming using FORTRAN and IDL. Assisted in multiple observations on the NRAO Very Large Array, and participated in student research observing projects. Advisors: Drs. Joan Wrobel and Craig Walker (NRAO)

Colby College Teaching Assistant, 1996-1999. Undergraduate teaching assistant for (undergraduate) introductory physics and astronomy classes. Held public open observation nights at Colby's Collins Observatory; highly experienced with the Observatory's various telescopes and CCD cameras and software. Ran outdoor telescope labs and various indoor physics and astronomy labs, as well as privately tutoring astronomy students. Supervisors: Drs. Campbell, Conover, Bluhm and Tate (Colby College, Waterville, ME)

Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics Summer Intern, June-August 1998. Fabricated, characterized, and modeled possible optical systems for the Next Generation Space X-ray Observatory, Constellation-X, to be launched ~2007. Extensively studied the applications of hard X-ray telescopes and past X-ray observations. Advisor: Dr. Suzanne Romaine (SAO)

Maria Mitchell Observatory Summer Intern, June-August 1997. Reduction and analysis of VLBA data of the silicon monoxide masers in a high-mass star forming region in Orion. See publication in Nature by Greenhill et. al below. Participated in multiple observations on radio and optical telescopes, as well as running public observation nights and lectures. Project work continued as undergraduate honors thesis. Advisors: Dr. Lincoln Greenhill (SAO) and Dr. Vladimir Strelnitskii (MMO)
