Observational Cosmology with Superconducting Sensors and innovations in Astrophotonics

Ritoban Basu Thakur

NASA-JPL and Caltech

Spectro-imaging of the universe sheds light on profound questions, from the origins of our universe to the formation of structures large and small. This talk will discuss how superconducting technologies are enabling cutting-edge telescopes today and the use of superconducting sensors in studying a gamut of topics from inflationary cosmology to the nature of dark matter. In particular, the importance of spatial and spectral data collection will be showcased. The talk will also highlight nascent field of astrophotonics, and how quantum optics techniques, when realized with superconducting technologies, can empower new discoveries in observational cosmology and astrophysics.
