Title: The ION PUMP: Conducting Polymers in Biology and Medicine

Abstract: Conducting polymers were discovered in 1977. During the two decades that followed, the physics and chemistry of this class of materials was developed and a number of important applications  emerged. Then, half a century later, long after I had retired and moved on to other interests, I was made aware of the remarkable and surprising progress associated with conducting polymers in biology and medicine. This is the story that I will tell.
