[Special Departmental Colloquium] The 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics: Who, What, and Why

Date and Time
Location
Corwin Pavilion

In recent exciting news, this year’s Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to two UC Santa Barbara professors, Michel H. Devoret and John M. Martinis, jointly with John Clarke at UC Berkeley, for ground-breaking experiments in quantum mechanics, which built the foundation for the next generation of quantum technology. Continuing our annual departmental tradition, we will gather together to discuss the Who/What/Why of the prize and also celebrate the laureates. Devoret and Martinis will describe the physics and the broader implications and applications of their award-winning work, perhaps also sharing reflections and anecdotes from their careers. Whatever your field of interest or level of expertise, come along and join us!

A reception will follow the event.
