Physics Lab and Lecture Series
Join us on campus for an inspiring event hosted by the Department of Physics. The evening will kick off with remarks by Professor David Weld as we explore the frontiers of quantum science — from the coldest places in the universe to the foundations of tomorrow’s technologies — followed by behind-the-scenes tours of our state-of-the-art laboratories and a reception to reconnect with faculty and alumni.
Professor David Weld received a B.A. in physics from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in physics from Stanford University. After working as a postdoctoral researcher and research scientist at MIT, he joined the faculty at UC Santa Barbara.
Current research interests of the Weld group include quantum and classical transport, Floquet phases of matter, quasicrystals, and quantum interactive dynamics. The Weld group’s research in experimental ultracold atomic physics has been recognized with an NSF CAREER award, a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists & Engineers (PECASE), a Sloan Fellowship, a Young Investigator Prize from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, and an Experimental Physics Investigator award from the Moore Foundation.
