Title: The South Pole IceCube Neutrino Detector: Beyond Astronomy
Abstract: I will describe how the IceCube project transformed a cubic kilometer of natural Antarctic ice into a Cherenkov detector for neutrino physics. We study the oscillations and properties of neutrinos with a natural beam that ranges in energy from 1 GeV for atmospheric neutrinos to 10 PeV for neutrinos reaching us from beyond the Galaxy. We will discuss the search for dark matter and physics beyond the Standard Model, from sterile neutrinos to quantum fluctuations of space time. Finally, we have been scanning the neutrino sky since 1993, without interruption, for the next Galactic supernova.
