Physics Graduate Student Shop

The UCSB Physics Graduate Student Shop is a well-equipped shop, located in PSB-S 1707, offering four manual mills, one CNC mill, three manual lathes, drill presses and band saws for basic machining. There are also punches, brakes, manual shears and belt sanders for light fabrication and a soldering area for soft and hard soldering.

Wednesday                  8am - 12pm, 1pm - 5pm
Thursday                  8am - 12pm, 1pm - 5pm
Friday                  8am - 12pm, 1pm - 5pm
Sat/Sun                  Closed

Access

Students, interns, volunteers, and other staff who wish to use the student shop must complete the following steps:

1. The Machine Shop Access Request Form must be completed, in addition to the Waiver of Liability and, if necessary, the Volunteer Registration Form. These forms must be completed each time your student or staff status changes.

2. Only after completing the form, contact the Grad Machine Shop Manager to make an appointment for viewing the mandatory safety video and taking the safety quiz. This process should take about one hour and the video/quiz will only be offered Tuesdays at 10:30am or Thursdays at 3:30pm.
