David received a B.A. in physics from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in physics from Stanford University. After working as a postdoctoral researcher and research scientist at MIT he joined the faculty at UC Santa Barbara.
Current research interests of the Weld group include quantum simulation, quantum thermodynamics, kicked quantum matter, Floquet engineering, quasicrystals, quantum emulation of ultrafast phenomena, anyon synthesis, atom interferometry, viscophoresis, and defect-adsorbate quantum interfaces. The Weld group uses ultracold quantum degenerate gases to explore a wide variety of quantum dynamical phenomena.
