Transfer Students
First Steps
During the summer of the year you are entering the university, we ask that you send the Physics Department a copy of your unofficial transcript with all your courses completed to physics-advisers@ucsb.edu.
Preparation for the Major
In order to enroll in upper division courses, we require the completion of our lower division physics and math courses.
- PHYSICS: 21,22,23,24,25
- MATH: 3A,3B,4A,4B,6A,6B
If you attend a California community or Junior college, you can find the equivalent courses on www.Assist.org.
If you attend an out-of-state college/university or Cal State/UC institution you will need to send course descriptions and a syllabus for each physics and math course completed.
Preparation for Upper Division Courses
We strongly encourage reviewing coursework or taking the practice exams to ensure preparedness for the rigor of our upper-division courses. A score of 70% or higher on the exams means that you are ready for the junior-level coursework. A score below could mean reviewing lower-division materials and/or auditing a course. See practice exams under Resources Files.
Proposed Course Schedule
After we have articulated your courses we will send you a proposed schedule for the upcoming year.
Meet with Your Transfer Advisor
As soon as you complete your transfer verification, take the opportunity to meet with your Transfer advisor. They will be able to answer many of your questions about research, grad school preparation, schedule planning, and career preparation.
Summer Transfer Meetings
We will also be hosting Transfer Physics Advising Meetings during the summer.
How To Apply
Physics undergraduate applications are submitted online through UC admissions.
